■ Zip Iams owns Reused Furniture, a consignment store in Olathe. Here’s how consignment works: A shop agrees to display a piece of merchandise for a period of time (in Iams’ case, 60 days) and pays the owner of the merchandise a percentage of the selling price — typically 40 percent to 60 percent — if and when it sells. At Reused Furniture, an agreed-upon price — rather than a percentage — is used if it sells.
